Using Obi Ropes to Make Static Cables
Posted by: mikecochang - 06-04-2023, 07:58 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (2)

Hi there,

Is there a way to effectively make a bunch of cables from obi ropes? Sort of like this video.

I'm currently making cables from blender and importing it along with the environment, but if Obi Ropes can do similar, I would be able to make tweaks inside Unity instead.

- Cables are static.
- Cables doesn't need any interactions

Can I do the following somehow?
- Simulate ropes collision in editor before I bake as mesh so ropes rest according to the environment.
- Bake a bunch of ropes together after simulation.

Thanks!

  rope resistance ?
Posted by: Mickle - 05-04-2023, 08:52 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (1)

Hello, i am making a simulation for simple pendulum but there is something i dont understand, when i left the sphere to start swinging, it supposed to swing like 20 swing when the rope length is 50cm for example, but it doesnt, it swings less then it supposed to do, as if the rope is resisting the swinging motion, i am not sure what factor in the rope setting that control this resistance

  Ropes // Wind interaction
Posted by: 5G_Zendmast - 05-04-2023, 10:08 AM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (2)

Hi all Sonrisa

I was wondering if an Obi Rope can be affected by some light wind.
I found an old post on the Unity forum from VirtualMethod where someone asked the question as well (in 2016) and the answer was "Currently not".

Has that "currently not" changed to a definite no or are there ways that the rope can be affected by wind?
Background to this question is that we have an underwater cable but we want to mimic the effect of a current that's pushing on the cable. I was thinking of mimicking the effect with a wind system that lightly pushes against the cable.

Thanks in advance Sonrisa

Kind regards,

Patrick

  problem with dynamic attachment
Posted by: Mickle - 03-04-2023, 02:26 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (3)

I have a big of a problem, the rope is connected to a sphere as you can see in the video and i have a script on the sphere that allow me to move it around, the end goal is to just make it swing as you can see in the video, but when i drag the sphere too much, it looks like the rope is disconnected and it freaks out, this only happens when the i assign the attachment type to dynamic, in the case of static, it works fine but again, the whole goal is to make the sphere swing left and right so it should be dynamic

  making the rope stiff ?
Posted by: Mickle - 03-04-2023, 09:00 AM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (2)

i am using obi rope to simulate simple pendulum but i am having a problem with the rope, when i increase the mass of the ball, the rope gets stretch as you can see in the video, but i need it to not stretch, instead it supposed to get more stiffed, so how can i make it do that ?

Rod model and other Fly Fishing questions
Posted by: Balou - 03-04-2023, 02:21 AM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (7)

Hi,
I'm having a lot of fun with the asset, trying, as many did before me, to simulate a Fly fishing line and rod. I know it's not possible to simulate it exactly as it is in real life, but I'm getting closer and closer to something that is satisfying enough.
Here is a reminder of the effect wanted:

Couple of things to focus on, the line motion is a straight line, the leader with the fly is following perfectly.
The fly is not that heavy and the difference with or without a fly is not that important.

My setup is as follow: 1 Solver and Update, a Rod and Rope. The Rope start (fishing line) is snitched to the tip of the rod so i can get the impulse from the rod. I don't have a fly or leader for now.

When I bring the rod from the back, it's usually the tip of the line that goes first instead of last as you can see in the video the fly is last and driven by the rest of the line. For me it looks like it's driven by a rebound or elasticity of the line how can I avoid that?

When I try to "deploy" my line, it also has a rebound, adding damping doesn't help much and makes the casting harder.

Probably because of the rod, but my line is not going very straight even if my movement is right, I've read that it's difficult to have a more rigid rod, what are my options?
If I use a physic rod (configurable joint) how can I get the impulse from the rod?
When changing the length of the rope, is the mass automatically changing too?
Is it possible to use a custom model with a rod? Right now I've a custom handle but when moving my hand there is a slight delay at the connection (attachments static) so it's not really a solution ...

That's already a lot of questions!
Here are some settings of my solver and rope. And a video of some casts.
Thanks a lot!

Exclamación Pooled Objects Rope Position Bug??
Posted by: exWitcher - 01-04-2023, 04:18 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (3)

Hi, I have 2 game objects that are connected to each other with a rope and they have a parent object. Due to the mechanics of my game, I use this object by pulling it from the pool and sending it back to the pool. When I pull an object from the pool to use it a second time, the obi rope position comes at a completely different point and I can never fix it in runtime. Is there a restart function for ropes or solvers? I dont want to Instantiate new objects in runtime.. Confundido

I can add videos or gifs if needed. But i could use an urgent help Triste

  IK behavior?
Posted by: mikecochang - 31-03-2023, 09:19 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (4)

Hi there,

I bought Obi-Rope awhile back but I only got to try it now. I followed the documentation and everything is working amazing.

I'm wondering if there's a way to set a maximum length for a rope without tearing. Like a cable that player can grab one end and move it but caps out at a certain distance from the other end. I'd imagine it like how IK works, so the loose end follows the target but doesn't stretch if it passes the max length.

Thanks,

Simulation of a mine loading machine with trailing cable.
Posted by: Kjelle69 - 31-03-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Made with Obi - Replies (2)

This simulator describes the dynamics of an LHD with a trailing cable. In the simulator, both manual input/output of the cable and a fully automatic mode are handled, which controls the winch motor based on the cable's tension.

  Make rope more stiff
Posted by: 3DJames - 31-03-2023, 02:32 PM - Forum: Obi Rope - Replies (3)

I'm new to Obirope, so I'm just learning. I'm trying to make the rope stiffer, like a cable, but can't get it to work. I thought the Shape Matching Constraints would do it, but I don't see the options in the help file though. I just see Iterations and Relaxation. I tried adjusting these values but it didn't appear to do anything.

How can I make it so the rope is stiffer?
