Hi!

Stable cosserat rods require the underlying engine to use (A)VBD instead of (X)PBD, this is an engine-wide paradigm change. We've already considered using AVBD in the past and have a development Obi version that uses it for some constraints, but AVBD has some issues compared to XPBD that prevent us from fully embracing it - namely, parameter tuning isn't nearly as intuitive or robust as in XPBD.
