So my animator doesn't have an "update physics" choice, it has an animate physics choice. However, after playing around with the two setting I've gotten it to stick with a "normal" update mode on the animator and a "late update" for the simulation order.
Now, I'm getting some clipping issues with my characters thighs and legs, see here:

Applying colliders to anything in the joint hierarchy creates this incredibly weird echo effect:

Sorry about the continuous questions! This will hopefully be my main solution for equipment and items in this and future games I create, so I want to make sure I have a full understanding of the tool i'm working with.
