Help  How can I make the rope in simulation close to USB or Ethernet in real world?
#1
Hi,

I am new to ObiRope.

How can I make the rope in simulation close to USB or Ethernet in real world?

What material should I choose? Or What parameters should I adjust?

Thanks a lot!

Hi!

I assume you mean how to make it close to copper wire cables, right? There's no such thing as a "material" in Obi that would determine rope behavior, the system is constraint-based to be modular, so the final behavior of a rope is a combination of all constraint settings.

I guess you mean how to make it so that the cable "remembers" its shape when deformed. This behavior is called plasticity, you can achieve it my increasing the plastic yield and plastic creep parameters in the ObiRope component.

I'd recommend spending some time getting familiar with the system though, since there's many different parameters that affect both performance and behavior.

kind regards,
